What we test for
The free in-home test screens for the everyday issues Central Florida homeowners notice most:
- Hardness (grains per gallon)
Causes scale on fixtures, spots on dishes and shorter water-heater life.
- Chlorine & chloramine
Disinfectants utilities add; they affect taste, smell, skin and hair.
- Iron
Leaves orange-brown stains on sinks, toilets, laundry and irrigation areas.
- Sulfur / rotten-egg odor
Common in Florida groundwater, especially on private wells.
- pH balance
Water that is too acidic or too alkaline can affect plumbing and taste.
- TDS (total dissolved solids)
A general measure of minerals and salts dissolved in your water.
- Sediment & turbidity
Cloudiness or particles that can clog aerators and appliances.
What an in-home test can't tell you
Some contaminants — including PFAS, lead and bacteria — can only be measured accurately by a certified laboratory. An in-home test is a screening, not a certified lab analysis or a statement that your water is safe to drink. Learn more about PFAS, lead removal and private well testing.

City water vs. well water
City water
Utilities treat and disinfect water and publish an annual water quality report, but hardness, chlorine taste and what happens in your home's pipes still vary. The test shows what actually comes out of your faucet.
Private well
No utility monitors a private well, so the homeowner is responsible for testing. Iron, sulfur odor and hardness are common in Florida groundwater; bacteria testing needs a certified lab.
Read our private well guide, plus well water vs. city water and how often to test well water.
